Deputy Headteacher - Corley Centre

Please Note: The application deadline for this job has now passed.

What is the job role?

Deputy Headteacher (Teaching and Learning / Progress and Attainment/Autism Accreditation)

Corley Centre is a secondary school for students with complex communication and interaction difficulties. Many of our students have a diagnosis of autism and their academic abilities span the full National Curriculum and GCSE/vocational range.

We are proud to have been awarded Autism Accreditation by the National Autistic Society in 2018 and again in 2021. We trust that this reflects our high standards of autism education and how central this is to our provision.

Located on the outskirts of Coventry, Corley Centre is a Coventry LA maintained school and welcomes students from across the city, with a small number from other local authorities. The school is situated in green, open space, surrounded by trees. It is a calm and welcoming environment, where the sense of community is strong, and students feel safe.  Visitors frequently comment on the courtesy shown to them by our students and of their pride in their school.

We aim to create a supportive learning environment, based on autism education best practice, where each student can reach his or her full academic and personal potential.  We aim to develop self-confident, independent and motivated learners who strive to reach aspirational goals.  We strive to make our students the central focus of all we do.

Our students bring a wide range of abilities and aspirations, special educational needs, vulnerabilities, challenges, and behaviours.  Student attainment covers the full National Curriculum and GCSE/vocational range, hence our equal focus on the personal and academic curricular, with all subjects taught by subject specialists.

The Deputy Headteacher vacancy arises due to the promotion of our original post holder to Headteacher following 10 years at the school, 9 Years as Deputy Headteacher. Governors are seeking to appoint someone with current significant senior leadership responsibility to lead on Teaching and Learning, Progress and Attainment, Autism Accreditation.

The Deputy Headteacher will lead our Teaching Staff and our Curriculum Support Staff in ensuring that each student has access to rich opportunities which will inspire a desire to learn, helping them reach their full academic and personal potential. As Deputy Headteacher, you will be joining a hard-working and extremely driven staff team who are motivated by ensuring the highest standard of education for all learners.

We welcome applications from candidates who can demonstrate:

  • a track record of outstanding leadership
  • a strong academic portfolio
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • a capacity for hard work and commitment to team work
  • calm, good humour and common sense
  • energy, enthusiasm and a commitment to securing excellence in all that
  • you do.

In relation to a teaching commitment, we can be flexible and will discuss individual preferences in relation to subject and amount of teaching.
