Cultural Development Manager
About the team we are recruiting to
Coventry City Council is the 9th biggest city in England and has ambitious plans to grow its economy, reputation and quality of life, including by the delivery of the title UK City of Culture in 2021.
The Council’s Business Investment and Culture service has a remit for economic development, inward investment, sustainability, culture, sport, tourism and events. The team we are recruiting to is responsible for a range of functions, including:
- Delivery of festivals and major events
- Promotion of leisure and business tourism
- Operation of the convention bureau; and
- Management of the fourteenth century St Mary’s Guildhall.
It is a lively group of largely specialist officers with responsibility for strategy, funding and project delivery across its sections. It has recently expanded significantly, taking on new staff to develop and deliver activities stimulated by the title of UK City of Culture in 2021 and being a host of the Commonwealth Games in 2022.
What is the job role?
We’re a small team of experts with a passion for participation, looking for a development manager to help support Coventry’s cultural development until September 2022.
The Cultural Development Manager will aid the service in relation to providing information, advice and guidance to cultural operators and managing the Council's grant funding programmes for culture, and supporting the development of service strategies for cultural development in the build-up and during Coventry's period as UK City of Culture.
This is a key role in a critical and high profile landscape. You will have the opportunity to shape, influence cultural development and successfully leave a lasting legacy.
If you have a strong background in supporting cultural growth and can demonstrate an understanding of the role of the arts in shaping a great place to live, work and visit, this could be for you!
We have a busy workload so you will need to have a flexible approach, as well as specialist knowledge of the sector and of good practice in local government cultural services.
In return you will be leading on delivery of funding schemes, projects and partnerships which build a legacy for culture in Coventry from its title as UK City of Culture.
