The Property Licensing and Housing Enforcement Team within Regulatory Services provides key services to tenants and residents of the City. The Team delivers key statutory functions in relation to all types of residential dwellings and places a fundamental role in improving people's living conditions and the quality of accommodation they live in. 

What is the job role?

The Compliance Officer (Fire Safety) will be responsible for ensuring the Council has an effective and comprehensive service regarding fire safety matters in high-rise blocks of residential flats.

This will include the development and provision of suitable advice, education, and enforcement activities to ensure all relevant fire safety issues are understood and addressed.

You will be responsible for responding to electronic, telephone, and public enquiries, regarding fire safety in high-rise blocks and other relevant fire safety enforcement matters, including dealing with more complex enquiries personally and will be required to respond and address customer complaints and ensure that performance standards in relation to fire safety are being achieved.

This post is fixed term for 12 months.

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Fire Safety and Housing legislation, policies, and procedures and experience working in a fire safety or regulatory service dealing with complex cases delivering fire risk assessments and fire safety services.

You will also be an effective communicator and be able to provide clear advice and assistance to a wide range of people, internal and external to the Council. 

Excellent literacy and numeracy skills to produce a variety of coherent and accurate correspondence eg reports, letters, and spreadsheets, and being able to maintain accurate records is an important part of this role and the post holder will need to be proficient in time management to enable personal workload prioritisation. 

The ability to investigate complaints and enforce legislation if necessary is a distinct advantage as there may be times when this will be necessary.
