About the team we are recruiting to

We are a small team with an exciting remit. Working at the interface of the Public and Voluntary sector our role is to support both City Council Services and the Voluntary and Community sector, this involves supporting both sectors around funding, recruiting volunteers and increasing the capacity of the sector.  Examples of our work include the setting up and support to the many food hubs and social supermarkets in the city, creation of community libraries and our work to establish a network of 300 community messengers.

Our Team sits within Public Health supporting the Covid Response and wider Public Health work.  We also support many services across the Council including property asset transfer and ICT community laptop giveaways.

What is the job role?

This role will work alongside two other lead officers to manage the day-to-day work of the Community Resilience team.  The role is varied, and no two days are the same.  Activities include:

  • Working with developers and business to secure their support for the voluntary and community organisations in the city
  • Advising services and partners how to work with community organisations and volunteers
  • Meeting community and voluntary groups to give advice on how they can thrive and deliver services
  • Research and writing funding applications
  • Bringing partners, services areas together with community organisations and volunteers to design and implement projects
  • Planning new work areas with direct reports
  • Drafting communications and social media case studies to explain impact

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a full time lead officer, a self-starter and someone who can translate ideas into action whilst leading, motivating and managing a small team.

A background and or understanding of the voluntary sector, is a must, so too is a can-do positive attitude.

When applying for this role you will be asked to write a personal statement, please include the following information in your statement.  Applications will be shortlisted against these points: 

  • Your knowledge of the voluntary & community sector and how this differs from and complements the public and private sectors 
  • Your experience of developing relationships across communities with individuals and community leaders and how you harnessed this community power
  • Your experience of designing, setting up and the delivering a project with many different stakeholders
