You will be joining a busy, friendly, and professional Regulatory Services Team with prospects to gain experience in a wide range of subject areas such as Trading Standards, Alcohol, Entertainment and Taxi Licensing.

What is the job role?
Working alongside the Trading Standards colleagues, the successful candidate with be responsible for contributing to delivering a high-quality Business Compliance Service in a way that protects our Coventry citizens and ensures that businesses and traders comply with regulatory requirements.
The day to day requirement of this role involves engaging with businesses to educate and encourage proprietors to comply with the relevant legislation and take enforcement action where necessary. You will also be:
• Investigating complaints;
• Providing guidance and advice to businesses;
• Conducting inspections;
• Taking evidence and preparing prosecution files;
• Interviewing alleged offenders under PACE.

This role is a career progression post, as part of this role you will have to obtain the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship, which will be funded by Coventry City Council (please find more information here: https://www.instituteforapprenticeships.org/apprenticeship-standards/trading-standards-professional-v1-0). Once completed, you will automatically progress to a Grade 6 Senior Business Compliance Enforcement Officer (please note, if you have already completed this apprenticeship or equivalent, we are accepting applications for the Grade 6 post (salary: £29439 - £35411).
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
You will be required to undertake 36 months of study to obtain a Level 6 Apprenticeship (Degree Level equivalent) whilst undertaking work based activities.
You will have the ability to build relationships with businesses and customers and have excellent standards of customer care and equal opportunities when delivering the business compliance function.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual, with the ability to deal confidently with a wide range of people including businesses, the public, internal and external stakeholders, Elected Members, senior managers, and colleagues.
Officers in the role will sometimes work outside of normal office hours and deal with confrontational situations.
You will need to have good written and oral communication skills and excellent organisational skills to enable workload prioritisation and meeting deadlines. The role will require someone who can use intelligence received to analyse a specific enforcement breach, therefore having previous experience in a regulatory enforcement setting is desired but not essential.
The role will require the applicant to use office IT applications, as well as experience maintaining databases and report writing.
