About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry Council’s Adult Education Service provide a diverse range of learning opportunities for adults across the city. We help residents with:

  • Learning for Work: This route is for adults whose primary focus is either getting work, changing their job, or gaining promotion.
  • Learning to Connect: This route is for residents who are seeking new outlets and want to give back to the community.
  • Learning for Life: This route is for residents seeking help with personal development or support with their family life.

We are a forward thinking, creative team eager to support all Coventry residents with their studies, with a special focus on those with the greatest needs. We run our courses across the city, many in partnership with Community Centres and charities and designed to meet local needs.

What is the job role?

We are looking to recruit 4 new business administration apprentices to expand our Learner Services Team. In this role you will be working in a dynamic and varied office environment within Coventry City Council.

The team provides administrative support to our staff delivering adult education courses around the city. You will help to ensure that our courses run smoothly, providing a first point of contact to learners to help them with things like enrolling, paying fees, finding classes and answering their queries. You may also get involved with marketing, drafting social media posts and providing support at job fairs and similar events.

You will be helping and meeting a wide range of Coventry citizens from all ages (16+), ethnic backgrounds and beliefs. The Adult Education team is particularly focused on delivering learning experiences for citizens from the most deprived areas of the city.

This apprenticeship role is a fixed term contract for 21 months in line with the length of the apprenticeship training.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have:-

  • The ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people, including colleagues, residents and partner organisations.
  • Be keen to work in a fast paced, customer focused environment.
  • Familiarity with IT systems, including Microsoft Office packages (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
  • Ability to multi-task and work under pressure

* The pre-interview is a short session to give the candidates further details of the apprenticeship role and to help them understand what to expect from and how to prepare for the final interview. You will also complete a short diagnostic assessment to check the level of Maths and English that they are currently working at and identify any support they may require.
