About the team we are recruiting to

Coventry City Council’s People & Culture Team sits within Human Resources and focuses on people, process and performance to deliver organisational transformation and cultural change through a range of organisational interventions.  We’re a high performing team who are leading on a number of key priorities across the organisation including: Employee Engagement, Values & Culture, Diversity & Inclusion, Talent Development, Corporate Learning & Development and Apprenticeships & Early Careers.

The Apprenticeships & Early Careers Team within People and Culture are responsible for delivering the Council’s Apprenticeship Strategy which includes:

  • Increasing the number and quality of apprenticeship opportunities within the Council.
  • Widening participation by targeting and engaging with priority and under-represented groups.
  • Embedding apprenticeships across the organisation and developing career pathways.
  • Effectively utilising the Apprenticeship Levy to upskill our current workforce.

What is the job role?

The Apprenticeships & Early Careers Team are currently responsible for over 300 apprentices undertaking over 60 apprenticeship standards ranging from Level 2 to Level 7 across the Council and our maintained schools.

You will be joining the Council at a time where we are refreshing both our One Coventry Plan and Our People Plan, with apprenticeships playing a key role in ensuring that that we address our current skills gaps and future workforce needs.

In this role your key areas of work will include:

  • Proactively engaging with service areas and maintained schools to identify apprenticeship opportunities as part of a workforce planning approach.
  • Supporting managers to set up apprenticeships including writing job descriptions, identifying an apprenticeship standard for the role, sourcing a training provider, recruitment & selection and scoping post-apprenticeship career pathways.
  • Managing a large caseload of apprentices, supporting apprentices throughout the apprenticeship lifecycle to ensure a positive destination.
  • Engaging with priority and under-represented groups to identify and remove barriers to work towards our aim of having a workforce representative of the communities we serve.
  • Commissioning, designing, and delivering a range of value-added activities for our apprentices to aid in their development.

Who are we looking for?

The Apprenticeships and Early Careers Team are a small team that are passionate about supporting our apprentices to develop and achieve their full potential.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has an understanding of apprenticeships and their use within an organisation in relation to workforce planning and career pathways.
  • Is passionate about diversity and inclusion and engaging with under-represented groups to break down barriers to employment.
  • Is able to provide advice, information and guidance to apprentices and managers to ensure apprenticeship opportunities are maximised and apprentices move into positive destinations.
  • Is able to work under own initiative with minimum supervision; pro-actively investigating issues and seeking solutions to problems.
