We are a dynamic Insurance Team responsible for enhancing a diverse range of functions to drive the Council to fulfil its transformational journey. We deliver the full range of risk management and insurance services to facilitate effective delivery of services to support the people of Coventry and deliver projects which are redefining the infrastructure of the city.
Joining the Insurance Services Team as an apprentice is a great stepping stone into a long-term career with the Council.
The organisation has a high expectation of our service, and we will continue to support and develop our staff to have the skills to deliver a quality service.
What is the job role?
- To assist the Insurance Team in ensuring the Council has an effective insurance programme and efficient claims handling service.
- To investigate, insurance claims made by and against the Council from the first notification to negotiation of settlement.
- To provide professional advice on liability, insurance cover and claims to internal and external customers.
- To assist in the identification, evaluation and management of insurable risks, to raise awareness of insurable risks with departments and assist them in identifying solutions to mitigate these risks.
- To help in improving internal processes within Council Departments to drive greater efficiency and enhance levels of service.
All candidates must have the Right to Work in the UK. We are currently not offering sponsorship for this role.
You will undertake the Level 4 Apprenticeship in Insurance . Further information for this apprenticeship can be found on: Insurance professional / Skills England
This apprenticeship role is a fixed term contract for 30 months in line with the length of the apprenticeship training.
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

- Excellent communication skills, confident in face to face, telephone, and written activity.
- To be flexible to the needs of the service.
- Good IT skills.
- An understanding of the range of services provided by the council.

Apprentices start week commencing 7th September 2026
The pre-interview is a short session to give the candidates further details of the apprenticeship role and to help them understand what to expect from and how to prepare for the final interview. You will also complete a short diagnostic assessment to check the level of Maths and English that they are currently working at and identify any support they may require.
