Children’s Services provides a wide range of statutory and non-statutory duties, from Early Help Services, through to children who are looked after.
The service reflects and responds to the changing needs of children and their families. It works to enable a reflective and flexible approach, with a strong Early Help offer and a real focus on Relationship Based Practice and Signs of Safety, which focuses on intervention and keeping families together.

The Looked After Children & Permanency Service works with children who are Looked After. The service holds case responsibility from the child’s first Looked After Child’s Review or first court hearing. The team works with children who are subject to care proceedings and those with an adoption plan, whilst also working closely with the Regional Adoption Agency-Adoption Central England (ACE).
What is the job role?
One of the most exciting new developments in our social work career pathway has been the creation of new Advanced Social Worker roles.
Working in a team of social workers with an experienced Senior Practitioner and Team Manager, the post holder will carry a caseload of complex and challenging cases, using their social work expertise and a clear child focus to secure the best possible outcomes for our most vulnerable children.
The role will include the following to work alongside social workers to prepare for ADM
- To be responsible for the completion of CPR's (child permanence reports)
- To attend and engage in fortnightly adoption clinic
- become case responsible at the point of placement order and case hold until permanence achieved through granting of an adoption order granted
- to support good matches and well planned transitions for children into adoptive placements
- to work at pace to achieve A1 and A2 adoption scorecard timescales
- to work closely with ACE ( Adoption Central England)
- to work with peer and develop specialism in adoption in the best interests of children
- To lead on family finding for easy to place children and to work closely with ACE to family find for sibling groups and harder to place children
This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
Who are we looking for?
You will need to have a recognised professional Social Work qualification (MA/BA/BSc in Social Work, Diploma in Social Work or CQSW)
Social Work England registration with at least 18 months experience in working with looked after children, court proceedings and completing assessments within timescales.
You will need specific experience and knowledge of adoption work, experience in preparing for ADM and writing CPR's
You will need experience of family finding , matching and working closely with ACE in supporting children moving in with their adoptive families.
You will need experience of directly supporting children and families / adopters / carers with adoption transitions.
