About the team we are recruiting to

The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need. 

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.  

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning.  In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas: 

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and 
  • Customer Care. 

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop. 

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

We are looking to grow our Learner Services Team.  This role is full time (37 hours a week) and all year round

The team provides administrative support to curriculum staff, ensuring that courses run smoothly and providing a first point of contact to learners.

You will be working in a team focused on supporting a particular curriculum area but will also help coordinate administration of classes at a group of venues across the city and provide initial advice and guidance to learners seeking to enrol on courses.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

The successful candidate will have:-

  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of stakeholders including, colleagues, partnership organisations and residents
  • Experience of working in a fast paced, customer focused environment
  • Good working knowledge and experience of using IT systems including Microsoft Office packages (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams)
  • Experience of data input and data protection awareness

Ability to multi-task and work under pressure.
