About the team we are recruiting to

The successful candidate will be joining the Accounts Payable team which is part of Procurement and Commissioning Services. We are at the heart of the on-going economic and social development of the city and are involved with facilitating payments and developing processes for suppliers and internal departments involved in the 2021/22 City of Culture, the Godiva Festival, Station Masterplan and City Centre South development. The team is also integral to the improvement of services for Adults and Children's Social Care, Public Health and Homelessness strategies.

Accounts Payable are proud to have played a key part in accelerating payments to support vulnerable suppliers and distribute grants to local businesses and residents during the pandemic.

We are based at One Friargate and are implementing a flexible working arrangement.

What is the job role?

Are you looking for a new challenge in 2022? Do you enjoy resolving queries, have an eye for detail and possess excellent customer service skills?

We are recruiting for a newly created permanent Accounts Payable Officer's role within the busy Accounts Payable team at Coventry City Council. The team is responsible for the prompt processing of over £600m of payments to suppliers and individuals including over 60,000 invoices per year. Accounts Payable Officers are also responsible for the maintenance and security of sensitive and financial information within the Council's Financial Management System, Business World. We are a forward thinking team and operate a paperless office.

The role

Working to the Accounts Payable Manager, your duties will include:

  • Prioritising and processing supplier invoices in line with the Council's No PO: No Pay policy
  • Resolving queries from internal and external customers
  • Checking new supplier set-ups - including for IR35, CIS, VAT registration and potential fraudulent activities
  • Actively promoting best practice

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for applicants who are motivated, enjoy working as part of a flexible and dedicated team and have excellent inputting skills. Ideally, you will have experience of working in a busy finance office using a Financial Management System and have good MS Office skills.

Having a desire to learn, willingness to adapt and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers are key personal attributes.
