We are a diverse and dynamic Financial Management Team responsible for providing a diverse range of functions to drive the Council to fulfil its transformational journey We deliver the full range of financial management and accounting services to facilitate effective delivery of services to support the people of Coventry and deliver projects which are redefining the infrastructure of the city.

Working flexibly with internal officers and external partners we aim to ensure finance is at the heart of everything that the Council does.

What is the job role?

Accounting Technician – Treasury Management

Looking to build your career in treasury and corporate finance?

Join our inclusive and supportive Corporate Finance team as an Accounting Technician within our Treasury Management function. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your finance career, gaining valuable experience in investment management, cashflow forecasting and strategic financial decision-making while contributing directly to the Council's financial resilience and success.

Working in a collaborative team environment, you'll gain exposure to treasury management, financial markets and corporate finance, building specialist skills in a key area of local government finance.

Key responsibilities include:

  • This role offers a unique opportunity to gain exposure to treasury management, financial markets and corporate finance within a supportive and collaborative team environment.
  • Support the management of the Council's daily cash position, ensuring sufficient liquidity across bank accounts.
  • Assist with the investment of approximately £70 million in line with the Council's Treasury Management Strategy.
  • Build effective relationships with money market brokers and external financial partners.
  • Complete monthly reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Process ad hoc payments through the Council's online banking systems.
  • Prepare and submit statutory government returns.
  • Contribute to wider Corporate Finance activities, including general banking operations.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT-qualified (or actively studying) Accounting Technician, who is self-motivated, proactive, enthusiastic and looking to develop a career in finance and accounting.

You will:

  • Demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
  • Work collaboratively and flexibly with colleagues across the Council and with external partners.
  • Have a sound understanding of accounting principles and the confidence to support both finance and non-finance professionals.
  • Be proactive in identifying opportunities to improve processes and ways of working.
  • Have strong IT skills, including a high level of competence in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
