We are a diverse and dynamic Financial Management Team responsible for providing a diverse range of functions to drive the Council to fulfil its transformational journey. We deliver the full range of financial management and accounting services to facilitate effective delivery of services to support the people of Coventry and deliver projects which are redefining the infrastructure of the city.

Working flexibly with internal officers and external partners we aim to ensure finance is at the heart of everything that the Council does.

The organisation has a high expectation of our service, and we will continue to support and develop our staff to have the skills to deliver a quality service.

What is the job role?

We are excited to offer the opportunity for a finance professional to join our inclusive team. Under dynamic management within the Corporate Finance area, we are seeking an Accounting Technician to work within our Treasury Management function.

The post-holder will be responsible for

  • Ensuring an optimum daily cash position is maintained on the Council’s bank accounts
  • Making decisions on investment of @£70m following criteria set out in the Council's Treasury Management Strategy
  • Making faster and CHAPS payments via the Council’s online banking system
  • Telephone liaison with money market brokers
  • Filing statutory Government returns

In addition to the above, you will be a valued member of the wider Corporate Finance Team and provide support in carrying out general banking functions and actioning card payment refunds.

Who are we looking for?

This is an excellent opportunity for an AAT Qualified Accounting Technician (or someone actively studying towards) who is self-motivated, enthusiastic, and keen to progress their career as an accountant.   

  • You are able to work with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.  
  • You will work collaboratively and flexibly with other colleagues within the Council and also our external partners. 
  • You will have a good knowledge of accounting and the confidence to provide support to a range of finance and non-finance professionals, while identifying improved ways of working. 
  • We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate a high level of competence using Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel.
