About the team we are recruiting to

Domestic waste is a busy operational department that provides essential services to the residents of Coventry.  We conduct over 210,000 collections a week on an alternate weekly collection system.  In order to do this, we have over thirty crews who between them conduct domestic waste, recycling and garden waste collections each week tipping at various locations. Drivers are allocated loaders who are trained in use of the waste containers and how to ensure they maintain a safe working environment.  Our drivers play a crucial role that utilises not only their driving skills, navigating busy residential areas, the city centre and major routes in and out of Coventry itself, but being one of the safety measures for ensuring our loaders safety.  

A key factor for us, is that whilst being essential we still offer a customer focused service. Care and awareness of how our collections impact our residents, minimising disruption and keeping a professional caring attitude is a must.

What is the job role?

We are looking for HGV Drivers for a number of permanent contracts we have available across our service areas. 

Positions will provide services within Domestic Waste, Commercial Waste including Nuneaton and Bedworth Domestic Recycling Collections team. Collections operate throughout Coventry, Nuneaton and Bedworth and the surrounding sub region.

 

Under the general direction of the Supervising Team Leaders, you will deliver a high quality safe, responsive and customer focused waste service.  Working as part of a team, undertake duties connected with the removal of both household and commercial refuse and recycling from a variety of locations and involving a full range of refuse containers, e.g. household bins and caddies, plastic sacks as well as large 4 wheeled bins.

Training and opportunities will be available on FEL & RoRo’s in addition. 

Who are we looking for?

In order to successfully carry out these roles, you must:

- hold a current HGV licence and CPC

- be physically fit

- be able to communicate in professional manner with colleagues and members of the public

- be customer focused and have a can-do attitude

- have an understanding of refuse or recycling collection methods/techniques, is essential 

You will be responsible for relevant paperwork and record keeping, including use of mobile technology and ensuring daily targets are completed.

 

We are looking for enthusiastic and committed individuals who are looking to make a difference; you will have a good level of interpersonal skills, flexible and adaptable and able to use initiative.

In return, we can offer you a 37 hours per week contract.   Additional payments will be made for driver duties.

 

Core operation hours and shift patterns are as follows:

  • Domestic - Shifts operate between 6.30am and 4.45pm Tuesday to Friday.
  • NBBC – Shifts operates between 6.00am to 2:45pm Monday to Friday 
  • Commercial – Shifts operate between 5.30am and 10:00pm Monday – Friday and 5.00am and 7:00pm at weekends.

Flexibility will be required to work across all shifts stated.  Shift times reflect time allocated for vehicle inspections.
