Tutor Level 3 - Work based Learning Manager

About the team we are recruiting to

The Adult Education Service is part of Coventry City Council.  We provide a wide range of courses for Coventry residents age 19+ and much of our provision is targeted at people with the highest levels of need. 

We offer long courses in English, maths, English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), ICT/Digital and vocational subjects such as Early Years, along with provision for adults with learning disabilities.  

We also offer a very wide range of short community courses in arts, crafts, music, dance, exercise, fitness and family learning.  In addition, we run a highly supportive study programme for young people.

Our work-based learning offer includes Apprenticeships in the following subject areas: 

  • Nursery Workers
  • Teaching Assistants
  • Leadership/Management; and 
  • Customer Care. 

We also provide courses for adults who are seeking work via the Council’s Job Shop. 

Our main base is at Southfields Old School, CV1 5EJ, with provision delivered at around 25 other sites within Coventry, mostly in areas of highest need.

What is the job role?

You will be leading an enthusiastic team who develop successful work place programmes for Adult Education.  These include a high achieving apprenticeship programme delivering apprenticeships in Leadership and Management, Business Administration, Customer Service, Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools and Early years, an innovative study programme, European funded projects and bespoke training for employers.

  • You will be responsible for leading the team to ensure that all programmes delivered maintain high achievement rates, successful outcomes and continual quality development, keeping up to date and in line with funding regulations, government guidelines and Adult Education policies and procedures
  • You will be responsible for ensuring that employer engagement and curriculum design is continually developed to enable the Work Based Learning team and Adult Education to deliver on funding and project targets. 
  • You will be responsible for organising and delivering all aspects of a level 3 manager role, such as: staff development, self assessment/quality improvement, recruitment etc

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

The successful applicant will have previous management experience within a work based learning environment.  It  is essential that the successful candidate has had previous experience of delivering and managing a range of apprenticeship provision and is experienced in employer engagement. In addition the successful candidate will have:

  • Experience of designing, developing and delivering apprenticeship, vocational and bespoke programmes.
  • Experience of teaching adults and young people.
  • Experience in developing innovative approaches to teaching and learning
  • Experience of leading staff development
  • You will need to have a level 5 teaching qualification (or be in possession of a level 4 teaching qualification and have the willingness to undertake a self funded level 5 teaching qualification) following appointment
  • A minimum level 3 subject qualification
  • An assessors award and/or an IQA award
  • A level 2 Maths and English qualification
