Adult Social Care is part of the People Directorate within Coventry City Council.  We have a simple vision and strategy that defines what we are trying to achieve, our purpose and our approach which underpin the principles of Adult Social Care, and we continue to work in support of this.

In a simple sense all our work, at whatever level should continue to support the strategy of: ‘Providing support, in the least intrusive manner possible, based on the assets, resources and abilities that are available to people’.

Adult Social Care encompasses a wide range of vital services covering;

  • Commissioning Team – we commission and work with a number of providers, to ensure that people with care needs have access to a range of good quality support to enable them to live independent and fulfilling lives
  • Social Work Services - we work with individuals who have care and support needs, and with their carers be they older or younger adults
  • Occupational Therapy and Equipment Services - we aim to enhance people’s ability to live safely and independently in their home
  • Internally Provided Services – we provide direct support to people enabling those in most need to live independent and fulfilled lives
  • Business Systems and Continuous Improvement - we provide a range of services including Financial Assessments, provider payment processing and Business Systems administration. The Business Systems team provide support to Adult Social Care, Children’s Services and Education Services.

What is the job role?

We are currently seeking to appoint a Waking Night Senior Support Assistant within our Promoting Independence Living Services (PILS) the post is a 33.5-hour post with additional 33% shift allowance.

PILS provide support to  adults with a range of disabilities from mild learning disabilities to service users with complex needs learning  in their own home

Our goal is to provide a high standard of care for everyone who has a service from PILS service promoting their dignity, respect, and independence at all times.

You will need to support service users with personal care as we are a domiciliary care service

The supervisory role will include:

  •  Lead and manage a team of night staff
  • To ensure the supervision, safety, and welfare of service users during the night in their own home
  • Managing staff rotas for annual leave/ training/sickness within the teams see Job Description
  • 6-week rolling rota will include weekends and bank holidays
  • There may also be occasions when you will be lone working.  

The hourly rate starts at £12.69 per hour, however, you will also receive an additional 33% for shift allowance for waking nights equating to £16.88 per hour

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

As a Senior Support Assistant, you will become a valued member of the team, having a creative and caring approach, you will build good relationships with the service users.

You will be committed to:

  • To provide shift leadership to staff at night
  • To provide care and support to a group of tenants at night in accordance with agreed service delivery and support plans
  • To provide night security at the PILS tenancies
  • Providing a quality service by promoting the physical (including the administration of medication), emotional, social, and intellectual well-being of each service user.
  • Ensuring that Health and Safety requirements are adhered to with due regard to service users, staff and all persons accessing the tenancy
  • Safeguarding vulnerable adults

You’ll need:

  • A formal qualification is required to apply a NVQ 2 in Health & Social Care, or equivalent, as a minimum along with the ability to undertake a Diploma level 3 in Health and Social Care within an agreed timescale.
  • To have a good knowledge of safeguarding, policies, and procedures.
  • To work with management to ensure that all service users’ needs are being met to support their individual outcomes.
  • The ability to using own initiative and respond flexibly to the needs of service users promoting dignity, respect, and choice at all times.

Interviews will be face to face as an onsite assessment will be part of the interview.
