Senior Project Engineer (Highways)

What is the job role?

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to join our Highways Maintenance Team. You will be working under the guidance of the Senior Engineer, to develop and manage Highways maintenance schemes for carriageways, footways and drainage. You will work closely with the Highways Operations Teams and external contractors to ensure that the Highways Capital Programme, is delivered on time and to budget.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include (but are not limited to):

  • To identify highways maintenance needs and prioritise works including working with the Highways Asset Management Engineer to produce forward programmes of work.
  • To propose solutions, prepare designs and agree modifications to highway maintenance schemes.
  • To design highways maintenance and minor improvement schemes in line with established design parameters including drawings, specifications and contract documentation to ensure the delivery of high-quality services on time and to budget.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a project engineer who can use their knowledge and skills to help us deliver our annual capital funded Highways Maintenance Programme.

This is a great opportunity for you be part of a dedicated and forward-thinking team of engineers and technical staff.

The role will challenge you to think innovatively to find solutions to engineering problems, making sure best practice is applied to both project development and delivery.

You’ll need:

  • BTEC Higher in Civil Engineering or equivalent in the same field OR significant and proven experience and knowledge in a Highways maintenance field.
  • High level of project management skills and associated tasks, i.e. Health & Safety, Finance, contract control and monitoring.
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to pass on your knowledge and be a good mentor to others.
  • Have an innovative and adaptable approach to solution finding.
