The War Memorial Park is Coventry's premier park and attracts around 400,000 visitors from all over the city and beyond every year. Many come to enjoy a casual visit, while others come to take part in some of the many special events that take place throughout the year. 

Roughly 48.5 hectares in size, the park is made up of two areas, the formal garden with the War Memorial and the sports areas, with playing fields, footgolf course, Splash 'n' Play Park and play areas. There is also a 1.6 mile circular footpath around the park.

The War Memorial Park is now listed as a Grade II park by English Heritage and the War Memorial itself is listed as Grade II

You will be joining the Streetscene & Greenspace team as part of the War Memorial Park Services, we are a hard-working team responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the War Memorial Park, ensuring a welcoming place for both residents and visitors alike.

 

What is the job role?

We are looking to recruit 3 Seasonal Parks Assistants.

The main purpose of this role includes providing a reception and maintenance service for a variety of locations in city parks and associated facilities, which ensures adequate security and a high level of service to the public.

You will be a member of our parks team and be required to assist with members of the public dealing with enquiries and event bookings via e-mail and over the phone along with daily cleansing and litter picking duties. 

You will also be responsible for equipment checks, reception cover and putting out of sports equipment as required. 

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has knowledge of customer services and issues relating to visitor services. Communication skills are key as you will be dealing with the general public, outside organisations and other employees, face to face and over the telephone. Showcasing the ability to develop a good working knowledge of the facilities at parks is advantageous.

You will also need:

- To follow written and verbal instructions and maintain written records as required.  

- Have basic customer care skills and good communication.

- The ability to work on own initiative with limited supervision.
