Coventry Children’s Services has a specialist Children Disability Team (CDT) which provides support to children and young people up to the age of 18 who have a lifelong learning/physical disability. 

The CDT is passionate about working with children, families and other professionals to achieve the best outcomes for vulnerable children.  The team undertake children and family assessments and works with children in need, children subject to child protection plans and looked after children.  A multi-disciplinary approach is modelled in the team in partnership with both universal and mainstream services to support children, young people and their families.

What is the job role?

We are recruiting a Support Worker to support a Social Worker to provide appropriate confidential personal and administrative support in order to assist in
the overall provision of social work services.

As the successful candidate you will support a social worker in getting to home visits, meetings and other venues, away from the office base; informing the social worker of any hazards and dangers and taking immediate action to support the social worker to avoid such hazards when identified.

You will assist a Social Worker by reading aloud, paraphrasing, or summarising case records, correspondence, reports and policy documents, either in person or by recording in an audio format and by describing statistical information and tables and describing pictures and graphs and other visual representations of information.

You will assist a Social Worker where necessary to access computer systems, in terms of operation of software applications, data input and reading and interpreting what is happening on screen.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
 

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an individual who understands the importance and maintain the commitment to confidentiality. You will have experience within a similar support role past, with excellent administration, organisation and time management skills.

You will have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, including the ability to communicate and engage with children and young people.

You will also have the ability to understand structural oppression and work in a non-judgemental manner, along with the ability to empathise and respect service users.
