The Climate Change & Sustainability Team has an instrumental role in the delivery of the Council’s ambitions, and in particular the vision to tackle climate change and promote a green economy. The team has a major role to play in not only setting an example for others to follow but mobilising all that live and work in the city to embrace the challenges that climate change and delivering a sustainable future presents us.  

To achieve our ambition, the Climate Change & Sustainability Team carry out several key activities, including:  

  • Delivery of the Coventry & Warwickshire Green Business Programme.  

  • Environmental consultancy support for businesses.  

  • Development of the Cities’ Climate Change Strategy and Action Plans.   

  • Support to residents experiencing fuel poverty.   

  • Identifying and delivering investment opportunities and projects.

Are you passionate about the environment and have knowledge of energy, water and waste efficiency?

We are looking for a Business Energy Advisor to join our Climate Change & Sustainability Team, for a 12 month fixed term contract. 

Coventry City Council, working with Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership, has secured funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to support the shift towards a low carbon economy. 

Within the role you would be a key member of the team, promoting and delivering the objectives and outputs of the ERDF funded Green Business Programme. In this role, you would work directly with small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) to improve their energy and resource efficiency. 

The Business Energy Advisor will need to carry out energy and resource efficiency audits within SMEs to produce action plans, identifying potential energy saving measures which will be presented to the business. Following the audit an offering of financial support with both revenue & capital grants will be administered to assist the SMEs to deliver the recommendations.   

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone who has sound knowledge of environmental issues, including climate change, sustainable energy use, carbon reduction and management- both locally and globally and their relationship with businesses and the community. You will also have experience in researching and interpreting complex relevant data, making recommendations where appropriate.  

You will have a high level of verbal and written communication skills and will have a proven record in consulting and negotiating to a high level.  

When applying for this role you will be asked to write a personal statement, when writing your personal statement please demonstrate the following: 

  • Experience of undertaking energy audits and delivering carbon savings through energy, water and waste efficiency.  

  • Passion for the environment and desire to shift towards a low carbon economy. 

  • Previous experience of business engagement and relationship management.
