About the team we are recruiting to

Children’s Services is a service area within Coventry City Council that supports children and families across the city. The Children’s Services Improvement Team work closely with the Children’s Services Senior Leadership Team to drive and deliver the strategic priorities of the services to continually improve and provide better outcomes for children.

What is the job role?

  

We are seeking to appoint a Children’s Services Improvement Officer – Strategic Support to join a fast paced, dynamic team whose role it is to support the Children’s Services Improvement Manager in the delivery of improvement projects and priorities and the implementation of plans and strategies across the Children’s Services.

This role is for a 12-month fixed term contract to cover the current postholder’s maternity leave.  You will: 

  • Work closely with the Children’s Services Improvement Manager and on the planning and preparation of inspection work across the service to deliver outstanding results on our Ofsted journey from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’.
  • Support with work on Strategic Plans, the Ofsted Development Action Plan and provide project support to the Coventry Family Valued Programme supporting workstreams, monitoring progress and generating reports. 
  • Provide strategic support to the Director of Children’s Services and the Children’s Services Leadership Team, attendance at meetings/Boards taking minutes/actions responding to enquiries from, MPS’s elected members, writing reports and presentations, working closely with key stakeholders and partners to deliver outstanding results and realise the opportunities these changes offer. 
  • Be responsible for leading and supporting on innovation funded projects and submission of bids
  • You will lead on the planning and co-ordination of Children’s Services wide events with the team.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

To be successful in this role we are looking for people who:

  • Have experience of working with senior managers and/or elected members and the policy context challenges for local authorities both at national and local levels 
  • Have experience of supporting on projects, monitoring progress/plans and writing reports
  • Highly organised and able to balance conflicting priorities and demands working under pressure, with the ability to work on initiative and be flexible to change
  • Excellent communicator in writing and verbally and be able to adapt to relevant audiences, including senior managers, Councillors, partners on complex issues.
