What is the job role?

This is a fabulous opportunity for an experienced, ambitious and highly motivated Approved Mental Health Professional / Social Worker to join a new and developing Forensic Mental Health Services in Coventry.

Coventry is a modern, culturally and ethnically diverse City that has a worldwide reputation for Peace and Reconciliation. We are at the heart of the busy, industrial West Midlands and yet surrounded by beautiful rural areas of both Coventry and Warwickshire which are only minutes away from the City Centre. Being well served by extensive road and rail networks Coventry is easily accessed from most parts of the Country.

This is a new and permanent post developed through a joint initiative between Coventry City Council  and the Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust and forms part of the major transformation programme for mental health services in Coventry.

The post will be based within the Coventry Recovery  Team at Swanswell Point in the centre of Coventry. Ideally you will hold the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) qualification or be currently training at either stage 1 or 2 for this qualification or have the necessary skills and experience to undertake the training. In all circumstances, you must be a qualified social worker registered with Social Work England.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

 

Who are we looking for?

The successful applicant will have considerable experience, knowledge and skills   in working with people living with  mental health problems who have a previous history or, who are at risk of involvement with the criminal justice services. As well as the Mental Health Act (1983) (including Part 3 of the Mental Health Act) you will also have knowledge and skills around the application of additional relevant legislation, including the Care Act (2014), Mental Capacity Act (2005) and the Equality Act (2010). Highly developed report writing abilities, care co-ordination and risk assessment / management skills are essential for this post.

You will be  joining  a very keen and developing team of psychologists, nursing, medical and supporting  professionals to help form  and embed social care interventions across Coventry.  

You will have an opportunity to be part of the creation and shaping the service design and delivery of this new model within this specific service area. You will work with colleagues from key stake holder organisations, across a range of agencies to mobilise solutions for this particular service user group. These agencies will include Coventry City Council Departments in accordance with ONE Coventry values, Police, Probation, The Ministry of Justice, Housing and voluntary and provider organisations.
