About the team we are recruiting to

FDAC, Family Drug and Alcohol Court, is a problem-solving court, where parents are assessed and offered an intensive intervention from a multi-disciplinary team, offering Trauma-Informed and Relationship-Based Intervention where their children are subject to care proceedings where substance misuse has been a feature of their parenting difficulties. The team works directly with the parents with the hope that they can overcome their difficulties in the timeframe for the child, and support permanency for the child in a time-focused manner. 

Coventry FDAC is a well-established and nationally recognised team for innovative practice within the public sector. The specialist multi-disciplinary FDAC team has developed and refined its knowledge of working with parental substance misuse. The Team’s combined skills and expertise offer an accessible and holistic approach to parent/s to overcome their difficulties to achieve abstinence. The Two elements of the intervention are – Can the parent overcome their difficulties in the timeframe for the child and can they provide safe enough care? 

In May 2019 the DfE asked Local Authorities to support and invest in families and in practice. The Supporting Families Investing in Practice programme, provided investment through grant funding to develop and expand the Family Drug and Alcohol Courts (FDAC). 

Coventry City Council and Warwickshire County Council have through the DfE Supporting families by investing in practice grant funding to expand the existing FDAC team in Coventry to provide a service to Warwickshire families as well.

FDAC have been shortlisted for the Children and young people now , CYPN awards 2022 for innovative public sector team of the year .

What is the job role?

We are looking for an Advanced Social Worker (Advanced Practitioner) to join the Family drug and alcohol court team on an initial 6-month fixed-term basis to cover a maternity leave.

You will be working as part of the specialist multi-disciplinary team, experienced in assessing and intervening with families in a child-focused way to assess and manage risk in relation to substance misuse. Relationship-based practice and problem-solving skills are key skills and experience in working within the Court process.

This post is exempted under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and as such appointment to this post will be conditional upon the receipt of a satisfactory response to a check of police records via Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for an Advanced Social Worker who has experience with complex children and families including child protection, looked after children, and court work. 

You will have 3 years post qualification experience and have the ability to work collaboratively with service users and their families to assess substance misuse and parenting working collaboratively with the other specialists in the team through the FDAC court process to plan and deliver intervention within the Court timetable.

You will have a proven track record of consistently high standards of practice and evidence of your ability to take on the most difficult and complex cases and use solution focussed approaches to promote the best outcomes for children, young people, and their families.

You will  be skilled in assessment skills, care planning, and undertaking direct work with parents whose children are subject to care proceedings as a result of parental substance misuse and have the ability to use restorative and motivational interviewing to promote change

FDAC is an evaluated model of intervention, a problem court working directly with parents where substance misuse is a feature with the hope that they can achieve change and children be reunified.
